Conflict: Desert Storm

Conflict: Desert Storm is a tactical third-person shooter set during the first Gulf War. The player takes control of a four-man squad of special forces soldiers, either in the British Special Air Service or the United States Army Delta Force. Each soldier in the squad has a unique specialty, such as demolitions, sniper rifles, machine guns, and assault rifles. To complete each mission successfully, the player must utilize the skills of each squad member, such as using their demolitions expert to destroy bridges, their heavy weapons specialist to destroy tanks, etc. Prior to beginning a campaign, the player can run through the basic training portion of the game, which will cover the use of weapons, as well being trained in the use of artillery and airstrikes, along with basic medical skills and squad maneuvers. The game includes a player-controllable Humvee and M2/M3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

Counter Strike

Counter-Strike is a first-person shooter in which players join either the terrorist or counter-terrorist team (or become a spectator). Each team attempts to complete their mission objective and/or eliminate the opposing team. Each round starts with the two teams spawning simultaneously. A player can choose to play as one of eight different default character models (four for each side, although Counter-Strike: Condition Zero added two extra models, bringing the total to ten). Players are generally given a few seconds before the round begins (known as "freeze time") to prepare and buy equipment, during which they cannot attack or walk/move (a player can still take damage, having the player drop from a certain height during freeze time was the only way a map designer could control the players starting "HP"). They can return to the buy area within a set amount of time to buy more equipment (some custom maps included neutral "buy zones" that could be used by both teams). Once the round has ended, surviving players retain their equipment for use in the next round; players who were killed begin the next round with the basic default starting equipment.

Max Payne

Max Payne is a third-person shooter in which the player assumes the role of its titular character, Max Payne. Almost all the gameplay involves bullet time-based gun-fights and levels are generally straightforward, occasionally incorporating platforming and puzzle-solving elements. The game's storyline is advanced by the player following Max's internal monologue as he iterates what his next steps should be. Several of the game's levels involve surrealistic-symbolic nightmares and drug-related hallucinations of Payne. Initially, the player's only weapon is a semi-automatic pistol. As the player progresses, access to other firearms is given, including melee and hand-thrown weapons. Some of the game's weapons can be dual wielded. Max regains health by taking painkillers, which the player collects. Total Overdose - A Gunslinger's Tale in Mexico

The player assumes the role of Ramiro "Ram" Cruz; criminal turned DEA Agent. He has been sent into the Mexican border city of Los Toros and its surroundings by his twin brother Tommy, who wants him to find out who killed their father Ernesto. The player will be tasked with infiltrating and taking down the biggest drug cartel in Mexico and battling it out with dope dealers, banditos, corrupt Federales and Mexican Army, loco luchadores, guerrillas, and other assorted bad guys. Between story missions the player can do optional challenge missions as he or she wishes, exploring Los Toros and gathering bonuses to rack up a high score. At the beginning, the player assumes the role as Ernesto Cruz, the boys' father. After Ernesto and the DEA attack the military in the jungle to take some info on Papa Muerte, Ernesto is thrown from the plane and killed. Colonel (Commander) Trust believes it's a drug overdose, however, Tommy suspects an agent. In second mission you are Tommy. Tommy meets Marco, who is his primary contact with Morales Cartel. Then Tommy destroys Virgillo gang convoy and their gas station, but is seriously wounded. His twin brother Ramiro takes the job. While searching who is responsible for his father's death, he will have to kill, befriend and interrogate many banditos, gangsters and drug dealers to get to the truth.

Dead to Rights makes use of bullet time, a popular gameplay contrivance of the time due to the influence of The Matrix films. More generally, the game advertises itself as drawing inspiration from Hong Kong action cinema, i.e. gun fu. The player is sometimes accompanied by a canine partner who can attack enemies on command. In some puzzle sections, the player actually takes direct control of the canine to reach areas that the human character cannot.Jack Slate is a police officer partnered with his K-9 unit, Shadow. The two patrol Grant City, a metropolis seemingly populated with more criminals than honest citizens. One night while on a routine patrol, Jack responds to a call at a construction zone, only to find his own father murdered. In pursuit of his father's killer, Jack is led through a labyrinth of crime and corruption. He is eventually framed for another murder by the corrupt police chief Richard "Dick" Hennesey, in a bid to stop Jack before he undermines the status quo. Terminator 3: War of the Machines

War of the Machines offers three gameplay modes, including an objective-based mission mode, basic deathmatch, and a capture-and-hold game where you earn points by securing and keeping bases (similar to Battlefield's conquest mode). The game is specifically designed to be played online, though you can play parts of it with computer-controlled bots. So, at least in theory, all the ingredients are in place for a decent online shooter. Unfortunately, things went sour somewhere. First, the game's performance is terrible. Even in single-player games, the engine would constantly choke and stagger, making us wait for it to catch up with what was supposed to be going on. The graphics are passable, but nothing special, and the model animations are stilted and seemingly incomplete. The sound, too, is sub par -- everything from explosions to ambient noises sound flat and unimpressive.War of the Machines' biggest cluster of problems, however, spout from its failure to live up to its own basic design. At heart, it's a game designed to be played over the Internet, but I was only able to find two-four online servers at any given time (there's a built-in matchmaking service), and those servers all seemed to be running on dinky cable modems with outrageous pings. For a game designed for online play, it's dumbfounding (emphasis on "dumb") that Atari hasn't provided a single dedicated server at the time that this review was written. At best, it shows a basic lack of understanding in how to launch an online game; at worst, it suggests that Atari simply lost interest at some point and couldn't be bothered with anything beyond getting the game on shelves.

Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven

Mafia's storyline gameplay consists of driving, mainly easy city cruise between different locations, as well as chases and races; the rest of the game is based on third-person on-foot navigation and shooting - all inter-connected with cutscenes. Through the events of the game's story, Tommy begins to rise through the ranks of the Salieri Family, which is currently battling the Morello Family, led by the sharply-dressed Don Morello.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow

Swat 4

In the fourth game of the venerable SWAT series, you play as a Special Weapons and Tactics element commander at a fictional police department. Gun

Gun features an open world environment, including side-missions that add to the story of the game. Gun is played by controlling protagonist Colton White from a third person perspective. An innovative interrogation system allows gamers direct control over the amount of punishment enemies receive before releasing important information. With more than 100 unique kills, let the punishment begin. Gameplay in The Punisher offers a combination of exploration, stealth and combat. When encountering an enemy, the Punisher can attack, or sneak up to perform a one-button "quick kill". Depending on the villain, the current location, and a player-determined level of aggression, one of numerous fatal assaults will be performed. The game's environments also feature interrogation "hot spots", where the vigilante can essentially torture his enemies, coercing them to share information that may help him in his quest. Freedom Fighters

Freedom Fighters is a third-person shooter, in which the player navigates through the streets of New York while fighting the Soviet forces. The game also contains squad-based elements, having a charisma meter. The player gains charisma by performing heroic deeds in the resistance movement against the invading forces, like capturing a base or destroying vital supplies. Prototype is an open world action video game. The game is set in New York City, where a virulent plague known as Blacklight is spreading through Manhattan. The story follows the life of professional hitman, Agent 47, as narrated in cutscenes by a former director of the FBI to a journalist who is interviewing him.
